Hi everyone, I'm new here and hope this is the right place to post this question. I have been trying desperately to find a group with some knowledge about FCHL (familialFamilial tremor combined hyperlipidemia). I apologise ahead of time if this gets a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys long winded.
I am 30 years old and have been on statins since I was 7 to try and controlControl Control rx the elevated LDLLdl test and triglyceridesHigh blood cholesterol and triglycerides Triglyceride level in my blood - which so far cannot be managed by diet and exercise alone. My mother had her firstFirst progesterone mc10 First progesterone mc5 First-progesterone vgs 100 First-progesterone vgs 200 First-progesterone vgs 25 First-progesterone vgs 400 First-progesterone vgs 50 First-testosterone First-testosterone mc heart attack before she was 30 and had angioplasty when she was 45, my uncle passed away at 33 from a massive heart attack and my aunt had a 7 artery bypass when she was 40. Metabolic syndrome also seems to go hand in hand with this disorder and most of the people in my family have it. I was pre-diabetic for three years but my most recent blood test showed that I managed to reverse it.
For medication, I am currently on
80 mg Lipitor
145 mg Lipidil EZ
10 mg Ezetrol
81 mg daily aspirin
2000 mg omega 3 capsules
I don't know the exact numbers but I was told my most recent bloodwork came back within desired limits for my cholesterol breakdown - which is the first in my entire life.
2 years ago - these were my levels (I think the improvement was due to switching from Pravachol to Lipitor and adding the Ezetrol and omega) These measurements are in mmol so I did my best to convert them. I think the levels are elevated but not as outrageous as they could be considering I have FCHL.
Total cholesterol: 7.55 mmol/L - 294.45 mg/dl
Triglyceride: 1.59 mmol/L - 141.51 mg/dl
HDL: 1.21 mmol/L - 47.19 mg/dl
LDL: 5.62 mmol/L - 219.18 mg/dl
So, here is my difficulty. My husband and I want to have a baby. I went to a cardiologist who specialised in lipid disorders and he was not very encouraging nor very helpful. I, of course, will not be able to stay on any lipid meds during the pregnancy and his concern was that without them my lipids will surpass the levels I had two years ago since pregnancy tends to exacerbate lipid levels and back then I was only on two medications. He listed numerous risks but his main concerns were possibly developing pancreatitis (which I was told has a 20-30% mortality rate) and also the fact that my mother had her first heart attack before she was 30, the age that I am now. I go for a thallium test on Monday just to ensure that everything looks good, I am confident that will come out fine. I am curious if anyone here has had experience with FCHL or FH and pregnancy? If anyone is aware of something alternative that I can do to be able to become pregnant without a known significant risk to myself and/or the baby? (I apologise again for the lengthy blabbering)
