pulmonary hypertension

40 yr old mother of 3,5,6 yr old. very small  vsd from birth with dextrocardia. i am not really concerned with the vsd since it appears to be very small on all tests.recent feb 04 echo revealed mild mitral valve regurgitation, mild tricuspid regurgitation, atrial septal bulge into or toward right atrium, small vsd,,mild to moderate pulmonary hypertension  @47mm,and possible amall atrial septal aneurysm. i have been feeling poorly since birth of 5 yr old ,sure it is tiring chasing 3 little ones but some days simply cannot function well.my cardiologist said their is nothing to worry about and if i really want to he will see me for a repeat checkup in a year.my childhood cardiologist always stressed that he was trying to prevent this 'pulmonary hypertension' and now i am alarmed.should i be or is my new dr. correct/ any input will be greatly appreciated-les

lesue,

The major long term risk of a vsd is stress placed on the right side of the heart which can lead to pulmonary hypertension.

The changes tend to occur over time. It would be helpful to know how your pulmonary pressures have trended over time.  If stable it would not be unreasonable to follow over time. If there are hints that things are progression, correction early can prevent changes before they are irreversible.

good luck
