The major long term risk of a vsd is stress placed on the right side of the heart which can lead to pulmonary hypertension.
The changes tend to occur over time. It would be helpful to know how your pulmonary pressures have trended over time. If stable it would not be unreasonable to follow over time. If there are hints that things are progression, correction early can prevent changes before they are irreversible.
