pulse rate

  Hi,
First of all, thank all of you for the wonderful help you are giving to each and every one of us.
Now for the reason for this posting.  My husband has CHF with an EF of 20%. He has been walking on the
treadmill with a pulse monitor on it and when he is walking, his pulse rate drops according to the monitor.
This just doesn't seem right to me that it should do this.  Is this normal?  I would think with exercise, the
the heart would pump faster not slower.
Thank you for your help and have a great '99.

Dear Susie, thank you for your question and your kind words.  Your husband's pulse should increase with exercise, so I'm not sure what's going on.  However, you should alert his cardiologist about this problem and perhaps he will then have a formal exercise stress test.
I hope you find this information useful.  Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.  Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to write back with additional questions.  Good luck!
