question regarding fluid build up

by pjcag, Nov 15, 2002 12:00AM
I can feel fluid in what feels like my chest...between my breasts...but nothing comes up when i cough. I'm starting to wonder if it could be fluid from my heart and thats why I cant cough anything up. Is that possible? I can feel it when I both inhale and exhale. Sometimes after I cough I can feel it sort of fluttering around if that makes any sense. The dr cant hear it. I am only 52 but have long history of high cholesterol and triglycerides and history of heart disease in family. I sometimes feel like a tight rubber band is around my trunk under the breasts and it feels tight...doesnt hurt exactly..hard to explain...like my bra is too tight.

pjcag,

Thanks for the question.

I have never heard someone describe that symptom, and I suspect that you have unintentionally omitted details that may be important.

What you need is a good history and physical to help sort this out, something that cannot be provided over the internet.

Regarding whether or not this could be "fluid from your heart" cannot be definitively answered without a physical, but I would conjecture that the chances are low.

If you are indeed having chest tightness or discomfort, you should be evaluated by a doctor soon to assess the possibility of a heart attack or its precursor.

hope that helps.

I have the exact symptom of a tight feeling under my breasts.  I cannot wear a bra that is even a little tight.  I have had a history of heart problems but my Doctor says he has never heard of anyone with this symptom before and doesn't seem concerned.

Let me know if your Doctor gives you any reason for this feeling.  I don't have it all the time but have had it for a long time with no bad aftereffects if this eases your mind at all but it is very uncomfortable.

I can be reached by e-mail at ***@**** if you wish.
