Most health professionals consider the normal EF range to be 50-70%, although I've seen 55% the starting range of normal.  The EF can and does change both for the better and worse.  If in your case you are young, don't exercise, smoke, don't eat a heart healthy diet, then a decreasing EF is a cause for concern.  On the other hand, if you have had an EF in the mid-thirties like me, and it has raised to 47% (48% in my case) then the present reading is a reason for celebration.

What is your cardiac history, and what led to investigating what your LVEF is?

No, I sure wouldn't panic.  However, I'd start taking cardiac health seriously.
