yjunebug,

Phentermine-fenfluramine has been associated with development of regurgitant valves.  The association, however, is a matter of some medical debate.

Severe mitral regurgitation usually needs fixing.  The decision to repair or replace the mitral vavle depends on numerous factors.  Some of these factors include: presence of atrial fibrillation, pulmonary hypertension, exercise intolerance, enlarging left ventricle, among others.

The bottom line is that you need to see a cardiologist who specializes in valvular disease, as might be found at the Cleveland Clinic or Mayo Clinic.

Hope that helps.

Based on my experience with MVP and MV regugitation ,repair early is always the choice. My repair didnot come early enough and I developed cardiac enlargement and atrial fib prior to my surgery .I went to a national medical academic center after carefully researching cardiac surgeons, sucess rates with repairs and number of surgeries performed yearly for valve repair vs replacement.Another issue is repair is always preferable over replacement.Don't wait too long, consult a cardiac surgeon who has an excellent track record at a major medical center. You want to have this done as an elective surgery rather than emergent surgery.
Good luck

mild valve prolapse

does anyone have this and have any pain by left breast? my dr said it is from this i see a cardiologist because i have cornary atery spasms not under control yet but he said this pain is from the mitral valve.

i had echo 5 yrs ago just wonder if it could have changed if i should be more aggressive with dr. about pain. it happens at least 3/4 times a week sometimes more painful then others more when lying down.

if anyone has this let me know.
thanks
Lynn
