relevance of LDL

Hi everyone. I weny for my yearly cardiologist appt. yesterday. I go for frequent PVCs. I brought a copy of my labwork to the Doctor who seemed concerned about my LDL. My profile was chol total-217, HDL-41, LDL-C-117, VLDL-59,and trig-293. I have kept a close watch on my labwork over the years and know these levels are high. I can control most of the values with diet, however even when the trig and chol levels drop into the normal range the LDL remains over 100. The LDL normal range used to be <130 now it is <100. I don't know if there was a change in laboratories they use or if there has been a change in the range everywhere. If the range was still <130 I would be in range. Can anyone give some explanation about LDL-C? (what significance is the "C"). I am a 44y/o WF. otherwise healthy. Thanks
