repeated bypass

My father (75 years old) with a history of 2 bypass surgeries (1st one 17 years ago, 2nd 7 years ago) is experiencing chest pain again. He is scheduled for a heart cath tomorrow. If he does have blockages, what options does he have given his age and past history of 2 surgeries?

quilt,

Sorry  for the response after the fact.

A third bypass operation is a riskier venture than the first, or even the second.  Very few patients have a favorable benefit/risk profile for proceeding with a third bypass operation.  However, it remains an option.

Angioplasty with or without stenting may also be an option, depending on the findings.  And of course, adequate medical therapy is of the utmost importance, regardless of the other options selected.  We see many patients who are sent to us for consideration of re-do bypass who are not on cholesterol or blood pressure lowering therapy!

Good luck.
