runner's heart rate

by tebba, May 08, 2009 12:51AM
My son just had surgery{bilateral herniorrhaphy} and ,while hospitalized, needed to have an echocardiogram.  His, heart rate was in the thirties, even in the twenties.  However, it managed to level out at 38.  Even now, 8 days post-op, it remains low.  The past year, he has started to take up running.  I've read about runner's heart rate, but isn't it dangerous to assume it is normal?  Are there other heart conditions that should be ruled out?  He is 39 years old and thin with no extra fat.

This discussion is related to Abnormally Low Heart Rate.
