sensor wires left in after bypass surgery

Is it common for the surgeon to leave the sensor wires in your abdomen after surgery. They are causing me problems and now he tells me he will have  to put me under again, re-cut jabout a third of the chest scar and remove them. The worst part is that he says it is going to cost me again.

Retained sternal wires are common cause of post operative pain. If it was the surgeon's fault that he left them there and they are now causing you symptoms of pain then he should remove them free of cost to you.
