Dear Eilene

I did not see your entire question. It appears to be about severe post-operative sternal pain. It can take several weeks for the pain to resolve. The pain should be controllable with oral narcotics. Turning and twisting motions can aggravate the pain. Likewise, heavy lifting can aggravate the pain and should be avoided. If the pain is severe, a re-evaluation by the surgeon is in order.

I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck.
