Angina is usually retrosternal (behind the sternum) and described as dull, squeezing, burning, or as a sensation of pressure. It is generally brought on by exertion, eating, exposure to cold, or emotional stress and relieved by rest or nitroglycerin. It is usually not a sharp pain. Since angina pain is due to myocardial ischaemia, it is not necessarily qualitatively different from chest pain due to coronary artery spasm (Prinzmetal's or variant angina) or infarction, though MI pain generally lasts much longer.
There are so many possible causes for chest pain that the only way to find out what is causing your pain is to have it checked out by a doctor. I would start with a primary care physician or GP not a specialist, as most of the likelier possibilities aren't even cardiac, especially at your age.
Usually, pain in the left side of the chest is related to angina. If the pain is in the middle of the chest, it could be arteries spasming or a heart attack. If pain lasts 30 minutes or more, than it could be a heart attack. Also, if ribs are out of alignment there can be sharp pain. You may want to check with a Chiropractor to see if that is the problem. I have noticed that I sometimes get pain in the center of my chest when my heart beat is fast around 90. Are you sure the pain is there first and then the heart rate increases or does the heart rate increase and then there is pain? It would not hurt to have an echocardiogram to make sure there is nothing abnormal about your heart. I had one done for my daughter when she was 7 because her heart would speed up to an incredible speed and not slow down for hours afterwards. It was really scary and she would cry because it scared her so. Everything was normal and we were told that children sometimes have this symptom and they eventually outgrow it. I know young people and people in their early twenties have more unusual heart sensations than people in their thirties. It wouldn't hurt to get an echocardiogram which is just an ultrasound and that way in the future the doctors have something to compare it to if you ever do have any heart problems later in life.
