side effects of heart medication

Actually, this question is about my husband, age 56.  He had a heart attack a couple years ago and he now has a stint.  Then, back in March 09 it was necessary to implant a defibrillator/pacemaker.  My concerns are the side effects of the medicine he has to take.  It's really bringing him down.  He takes simvastatin, as well as amniodorine (not sure about spelling).  The main side effects are with his mouth, tongue and lips.  It really is not visibly noticeable, but his mouth is so dry and he says his tongue feels swollen and sometimes sticky.  Same problem with his lips.  And he gets cracks in the corners of his mouth as well.  He's had so many discussions with his doctors and the ENT.  He's been prescribed a multitude of medicines as well as over the counter stuff.  But he's still miserable.  He's decided to just quit taking all his medicine, just to feel good/normal.  I'm just looking for another possible solution for him.  I'm scared he's really going to stop his meds, which are very important to stay alive.

Sounds like mostly amiodarone side effects.  Not sure why he is on it, but if it is for atrial fibrillation, it can likely be stopped after talking to his doctors first.  If for more severe tachycardia, such as ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation, he definitely should stay on it, at least for now, and if no further episodes the dose may be slowly reduced and monitored.  He already has an ICD so he is protected in cases the arrhythmia resurfaces.  The other meds that he is on are unlikely to cause these problems and he should stay on them because his life does depend on it.
