sinus arrythmia

Hello,

I have recently undertaken both an ecg and a 24hr ecg. Both resulted with me having sinus arrythmia. While my doctor's continue reassuring me that it is completely normal, I am not sleping at night due the recurrent palpitations.

I am almost 20, male and have been involved in sport all my life. Unfortunately my worries are beginning to take over my life now. I would apprcitate it if you could give me your opinion on this matter.

Thanks

I'm a bit confused here. I thought sinus arrythmia was a variation between P-waves of more than 10%. In basic terms this means each time your heart beats you would expect to see the same delay. So let's say your heart beats and relaxes, then there's a wait of half a second and it beats again. If this happens every time and the half a second doesnt vary by more than 10%, this is normal. Every time we breathe in and out, this delay increases and decreases, but within a 10% variation. I am 'guessing' you have a longer delay or a wide variation of delays. If there is no obvious reason for this, which your Cariologist will know, then there is no real concern. You could ask him for more information about the variations and what percentage they are. The trouble with cardiologists is that they see something 1% out of the normal range and have to open their mouths. They then have to try and convince the patient that it isn't a problem. I think this is probably what has happened here.
