sleep arrhythia

Most regularly I am having a heart pounding sensation after a few hours of sleep.  Enough to wake me up until I can get relief from the pounding.  Would elevating my body help, and why?

Thank you.

It sounds as if you are having palpitations, or the sensation that your heart is racing, beating irregularly, or just an overall increased awareness of its regular beating. the safest thing to do at this point is to see your doctor. A physical exam, EKG, and possibly a 48hr Holter monitor will provide more information about your heart rate and rhythm. With that additional information, your doctor will be able to make a decision about the best course of treatment, if any. Without knowing what exactly is going on, it is not clear if elevating your head or changing your position at night would be helpful
