slow heart rate after cardioversion

slow heart rate after cardioversion

7 days ago I had electric cardioversion, following my second ever episode of atrial fibrillation (my first one was in 2003). I am 51.

Now my blood pressure is back to normal, but my heart rate has slowed considerably after the cardioversion (from an average of 75 to 58).
I am not taking any drugs for the heart.

Is this normal? What could be the reason for this?

Thank you.

Post-conversion pauses/bradycardia may often be seen following return of sinus rhythm from atrial fibrillation. Pauses are usually episodic and immediately follow conversion. Bradycardia may sometimes be seen longer. Both are a result of stunning of the intrinsic pacemakers of the heart (SA, AV node). This is usually benign, especially in the absence of any symptoms (light-headedness, dizziness, or fainting). If you should experience any of these or recurrence of your atrial fibrillation, you should speak with your physician for further evaluation.
