sternal non-union

by granzs, Apr 20, 2008 12:15PM
I had bypass surgery 1-0-7 and in March of the same year I was told I had a small area of the sternum that had not sealed. I now have a larger area with pain when I move or breath and scraping sounds of the bones when I turn. I have been advised to have sternal repair. My question is " does anyone know if there is a danger of worse complications if I do not have it repaired?"

Thank you

Granzs

There can develop  bacterial osteomyelitis of sternum, ulcer, abscess and no relief from pain.

I am Dr. Arch Miller of the reconstructive surgery forum. I believe I have written you once before. I strongly recommend you have your problem addressed and recommend rigid fixation with something like the talon. Go to the web site, rapidsternalclosure.com. I hope this helps, respectfully,
