I  had a triple by-pass 2 years ago.  Everything fine until last week having pain in the upper right sternum.
should I seek medical assistance or just ride this out

Absolutely, you should see a cardiologist if at all  possible to document any abnormal physical findings, EKG and symptomatic review of systems.

You could call you cardiologist's nurse and ask her just to make sure..can't hurt

My husband has pain with his sternum also. It has been 2 years since his surgery. He strained it at work and since that time he has been in pain. Also his hands burn and sting constantly. He had 2 stents and  one of them twisted for some unknown reason and caused him to have a heart attack. He has had problems since. He has about 35% heart function. Can someone help us with answers?
