systolic ejective murmer?

by kim, Sep 08, 1999 12:00AM
Hi, I went to the dr's yesterday and she has ordered an echocardiagram. the nurse said reason for test is "systolic ejective murmer range 2-6"
what does this mean?
when i was pregnant they heard the murmer and said it was benign..i havent been to the dr's in 5 years until yesterday. She seemed concerned when listening to my heart. She had me lie a few different ways and also sit up as she listened..then told me she was ordering the test.
I know I should have asked questions but i was afraid to hear the answers I think.
COuld you tell me what that term systolic ejective murmer means? and what the range means?
thank you,
Kim

It means that you have a heart murmur (abnormal sound) with each heart beat. The 2/6 means that it is not terribly loud. Most likely, it is a benign murmur. Usually, if you had a serious valve problem, you would have had problems during pregnancy. The echo should settle the issue.
