systolic hypertension in young men

by jlbkii, Sep 01, 2009 02:20AM
I'm a 27 yr old male in at ideal weight who exercises regularly and maintains a healthy diet with no red meat low sodium and pretty much all other dietary details that have been associated with blood pressure.  However, my average blood pressure is 145/75 and it's not clear why it should be so high, neither of my parents have high blood pressure in fact both have a pretty healthy reading for their age.  Additionally, I occasionally experience heart palpitations and I have what I would say 'heavy' heartbeats; that is, I'm almost always aware of my heartbeat.  It doesn't interrupt my thoughts so much if I'm busy doing something but when I stop I am aware of each beat.  I can also feel my heart beating in other parts of my body, like my fingertips. Also, one can actually see when my heart is beating by just looking at my chest (sometimes).

You need to see a cardiologist to rule out any heart problems, and then get a complete blood work-up to makes sure your kidneys are functioning at  100%.  Your pulse is also important, do you know what that has been?  Your pressure is high for someone so young.

I'm actually scheduled for an echocardiogram later in the week and my ECG and blood work turned out in normal ranges. My pulse is normal, around 60-65 bpm.
