tachycardia while at rest

It's really weird, during the day my husbands heart rate is normal, in the 55-65 range and fairly normal, but at night while resting, I should say sleeping, the minute he falls asleep I notice, his heart rate goes UP!  way up.  from a normal rhythm and rate to anywhere from 85-105 bpm and not really irregular but has a strange thump in there at times.  like, beatbeat, beatbeat, beatbeat,THUMPTHUMP,(ever so slight pause) beatbeat, beatbeat,THUMPTHUMP(slight pause), so on and so forth.  and the thumps are incredible.  you can SEE them thru his shirt or especially if he isnt wearing a shirt you can see them in his chest. and the thumps throw my hand off his chest they are so strong.  my question is this, what causes the heart to speed up at rest instead of slow down, or relax?  the only thing he notices is that he is still tired after a night of 7-8 hours of sleep.  (lately tho he hasnt been sleeping hardly at all.) he does have a hole in his heart as i have said before, but we have no health insurance so it is hard to get to a dr let alone a cardio.  the part that interests me is that he has no idea of anything happening.  he doesnt feel a thing.  lol  anybody have any ideas?  should i worry?  any input would be greatly appreciated.  thank you so very much!   :)

LMFAO

well it isn't like I roll him over and make him lay there so i can listen!  lmfao  mostly its when i get up to use the restroom and when i come back to bed he holds me when laying on his back and i rest my head on his chest that i hear his heartbeat.  (i have awful insomnia sometimes so i am up and down a lot at night)

he has an appt next tues with his p.a. and im going with him to see if we can get anything done as far as a cardio consult.  this has gone on too long.  he is always tired cuz his heart never seems to want to slow down.  oh well.  thanks for the input kitcurious.  and the laugh. :)

Take him to a doctor and see if he needs a  cardiology consult or sleep study. I can't imagine I'd sleep well if my bed partner was checking my heart rate a lot during the night though.
