target heart rate

I am on bata blocker (Coreg,Cozaar). I was told that my heart target rate is altered. Would you give me a guide line regarding new target zone? Since I started aerobic exercise, I feel much better. Thanks for your advice.

Dear Kim, thank you for your question.  The maximum heart during exercise (100% capacity) is calculated by subtracting age from 220.  Generally, aerobic exercise should be between 65-85% of the maximum heart rate for a sustained period (20-45 mins).  Beta blockers can slow down the maximum heart rate by roughly 10-20% so your target heart rate for aerobic exercise may be slighly lower.  However, you should check with your physician to get specific recommendations regarding exercise.  I hope you find this information useful.
