I have had the same problem for years. I only recognize it after a heavy night of drinks or when I have sex. Otherwise, if I do any strenuous exercises (even if I run a marathon), there is nothing. I had several EKG, ultra-sounds etc and no-one could tell me what it is. So very curious to hear the result

I have this problem from time to time. Ima 22 year old male and extremely althletic but Ive been having this problem my entire life off and on maybe once a month to not at all or every day etc.. ive noticed it happens more often when im stressed. But I dont think it could be serious and have me still preform strenuous exercises at target heart rate day end and day out without some kind of side effect. So my guess it's a symptom range from potentially serious to weird thing my body does. Ha none the less peace at mind is worth a doctor visit or 2. If anyone has some more information on it id like to know for my own personal curiosity.

So glad I'm not the only one with clicking sounds from my heartbeat! It only happens when I lie down, and I sleep alone, so I don't know if anyone else would be able to hear it, but it sure seems like they could, it is so loud.

Have not seen a doctor about it. It's been going on for years and I've always been curious.

Hey,
I am a 25 yo male I have a history of spontaneous Pneumothorax and have a congenital issue with my left pulmonary valve (its smaller than it should be by 1/3).
It has caused my left lung and rib cage to be 30% smaller than the right and has also caused scoliosis from the spine bending to compensate with the smaller side.
I have also had an audible knocking sound come from my chest that everyone in the room could hear, the noise coincided with my heart beat.
Although many tests were ran no one could tell me exactly what caused this noise, I haven't experienced it in a few years but between the ages of 18 and 22 it was quite frequent
Id love to know to cause in case the specialists have overlooked something

Thanks Josh

I also noticed this noise about 2 years ago, and yes, I still have it....(Im 34)
I went for an ultra-sound because it was bothering me so much, couldnt concentrate on anything but this cracking sound. I asked for ultrasound report because the doctor said everything is fine!! Which was not fine....
I have "Tricuspid regurgitation".

Tricuspid regurgitation is a disorder in which the heart's tricuspid valve does not close properly, causing blood to flow backward (leak) into the right upper heart chamber (atrium) when the right lower heart chamber (ventricle) contracts.
Maybe you have something else, everybody's different. I suggest you go see your doctor and get it tested.
Im my case I really think stress was the cause of it.

Hi i am a 19 year old female and a few months ago i was having shooting pains through my heart, neck, back, ribs and muscles.. i would also feel short of breath when my heart made that clicking noise like it is now...i got antibiotics for the bronchitis it turned out to be and an inhaler, but nobody said anything abody the clicking noise and i knew it wasn't from bronchitis. lately tho i have been smoking alot, trying to cut down after today though cause the shooting pains came back randomly and the clicking noise started again and it makes it really hard to do normal things cause it hurts my chest and the sound is really irritating to me and it worries me. Could you tell me what it is? Cause if i'm dancing or something, all the pain and the clicking gets much worse. then i try to calm down to catch my breath it takes a while for it to go away, if it does... theres not really a particular time it does it, just whenever and the feeling is odd.

In my late 20s I developed a click also.  It was a benign mitral valve prolapse.  It was annoying, but I was told it was more a nuisance than anything else.  It faded through time and left me with no other symptoms or problems.  My husband could hear it too.  My pcp  was amused by it. You should at least see a doctor for this.  Take care, Ally

I was thinking of heart murmur. There are certain degrees of heart murmur and it could be that. Right side of the chest isn't where the bulk of the heart lies but as ed said, a doctor could listen and determine what's causing the clicking/ticking.

Can you be a bit more specific please. Does the ticking occur when laying down? standing up? laying on a particular side? Does it occur with each breath?  Does it stop if you hold your breath? Does it occur after eating?
It would be a crackle in the lung from your asthma. If you go to the Doctors, they will have a good listen with a stethascope to establish if it's something in your lung.
