to young to have angina

by ben84, Nov 06, 2008 12:14PM
i have recently posted another question in conection with my high blood pressure which is normally around 165 over 108 but can at times be as high as 179 over 125 and as low as 145 over 100. i have also been getting chest pains in my chest in the center near the breast bone. its not always a pain sometimes a tightening in the chest. the pain is normally quite mild but can at times be very painful the pain itself is like a crushing pain like someone gad the foot on my chest and is pressing down on it. i am only 24 and am 6ft tall 225 pounds. they are thinking its angina i do have family history of heart trouble my dad has heart disease and had his first of many heart attacks and issues in his twentys and had a valve put in before he was thirty. i guess my question could they be right and this is angina or am i simply to young.

No this could be angina with your family history, but it is more likely to be a congenital problem ( such as an anomalous coronary artery) or connective tissue disorder. I suggest an echocardiogram and a CT of the chest first. If these are normal then you may need a stress test to address typical atherosclerosis, which I think is less likely given your age.
