toprol xl 50mg and daypro

  i have been taking toprol xl 50mg/day. about 14 day ago i was prescribed
  daypro (a non-steroidal anti infamatory) to relieve pain in my arm/back.
  i took 1200mg/day. within 7 days my blood pressure raised from 160/90
  to 203/104. i was advised to go to er. my cardiologist recommened to
  stop daypro and put me on hyzaar 50/12.5 one a day. i would like to hear
  from anyone who could let me know of some way to see if others had
  similar experience with this combination (toprol and daypro)

Dear Paul, thank you for your question.  I have never heard of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent like daypro causing an exacerbation of hypertension while on a beta blocker (toprol).  I agree with stopping the daypro and switching to hyzaar.
