The aorta vessel is the output of the left ventricle that is the pathway for oxygenated blood to the vital organs and system. A tortuous aorta indicates a less than normal pathway that include twists and turns. More common as one ages. It is the crowding of space within the chest wall due to osteoporosis (narrowing of space between disks) or disk degeneration due to a disease, etc...the spine is shortened.
The consequences of a tortuous aorta (can inappropriately bow and flex) could be to prevent spontaneous motion of the esophagus, esophagitis, hiatal hernia, etc.
The treatment would be to determine the underlying cause and treat if there is a major problem ie. eating, drinking, pain, etc. The crowding effect could impede heart and lung function as well depending severity and location as it can displace the normal position of the chest cavity organs.
