tratment for DVT

by jose-alves-machado, Jan 31, 1999 12:00AM

  Dear Doctor,
I am suffering from DVT ( left leg - femoral artery fully
obstructed )for more than four year.  I gave up seeing my doctor because
as far as I could understand, he has no solution for my case. The only
advisement he used to give me was that I should walk for some time everyday.
I have been doing that, but I can't walk farther than 200 steps due to the
pain. After a few minutes of resting I get ready for anhother similar
  distance.
I am desparate due to this problem and I will truely be grateful
for an advice which might result in an adquate treatment for my case.
I am 51 years old. I smoke for 35 years but gave up smoking four years ago.
I also have high blood pressure.
I take madication for hipertension icluding diurethics.
  My true thanks in advance
  Sincerely
  Jose Alves Machado

Dear Jose,
You need to be treated by someone and that someone would best be a vascular medicine
physician at a major university center where they see and treat a number of such cases; as well
the major university centers usually have the latest greatest treatments available (this includes
clinical trials of potentially helpful drugs and procedures that are not available elsewhere.
But no matter, I advise you to seek care somewhere.  If the Cleveland Clinic is an option, we have
an excellent vascular medicine team that consists of medicine doctors, cardiologists that do procedures
on the leg arteries, surgeons, and clot specialists.
I hope this information is useful. Information provided in the heart forum is for
general purposes only. Only your physician can provided specific diagnoses and therapies.
Feel free to write back with further questions. Good luck!
If you would like to make an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center, please
call 1-800-CCF-CARE or inquire online by using the Heart Center website at
www.ccf.org/heartcenter. The Heart Center website contains a directory of the
cardiology staff that can be used to select the physician best suited to address your
cardiac problem.
