triple heartbeat

triple heartbeat

I am a 62 year old male. 5 months agoley street doctor detected " an extra heartbeat".
A couple of weeks later, I saw my doctor who said she could not hear anything out of the ordinary.
3 or 4 weeks later I was about to open my front door, when I experienced a "bang" in the chest ,(shouted loudly) and found mysel on the floor.
Curiously I didnt feel any after effect (except a little anxiety) and carried as normal.
I approached my doctor again, she listened to my heart, (not confirming or denying) and arranged a test involving contacts on my chest and a chest xray.
I pursued surgery a week later and was told ,I would have been advised if there was anything wrong.
I have now moved to USA (10 weeks later) and have just had an introductary check up, and have that I have a problem with my heart which needs pursuing, ( valve problem). Indeed having listened via a stethoscope myself, there is now no doubt about an extra beat, as it sounds like a "regular" triple . The doctor recommends I have a Ultra sound, (or ultrasonic), as soon as possible.
What may be the cause ?,Should I treat this urgently,? ignore it ? go back to uk ? , or can it wait until we have settled in our new country.

An echo would show how your valves are working. Many people have a trace or mild regurg with a valve and doctors just monitor it. The new doctor may want you to wear a heart monitor for a day or two (a Holter) or if your extra beats don't happen very often, you may wear an event monitor for a month (King of Hearts). That records about 2 minutes at a time in a loop then records over that again and again. If you feel a strange heartbeat, push the record button and it will save that portion. They'll explain it all to you. The monitors are very handy to "catch" the random strange heart rhythm. If I was you, I'd at least get the ultrasound/echo done soon for peace of mind.

My husband has been to the heart center several times over the past 3 weeks.  His doctor says he has Atrial Fibrillation along with Mitral Regurgitation.  He also has been dignosed for Cronic (chronic) Gastritis.  He is taking 100mg of Toperal and cumidian for his heart and Protonix for his stomach.  My question would be why is he taking these medications?  How are these medications helping the leak in his valve?
Thanks,

Oops, I wrote a msg then hit the wrong button - hit back to forum instead of post.

The Protonix will help with his stomach upset. Many people find stomach problems will trigger an arrhythmia.

The Coumadin helps prevent blood clots which can come with atrial fibrillation.

Toprol - not sure. People have mentioned it but I don't know the use. Perhaps it's an anti-arrhythmic?

I doubt these meds will help the leak. If the leak is just a trace or mild, they don't do anything to fix it. It's just there. Severe leaks would require surgery. No one wants to rush into that.
