triple vessel disease

My father had suffered from blood circulation problem and met cardioc specialist. Doctor had done angiogram test and reported that he had tripple vessel disease. Firstly he suggested for angioplasty and revised his suggession and said better to go for by pass surgery. What excatly the difference between the two surgeries and how far it is required for that disease? With in how much period it can be done? Can the diseased person can wait for 3 to 6 months for that disease?
Additional information about the patient.
He has sugar and BP for past 10 years and using the required tablets and most of the time they are under control.
He regurly do the walking and other things to control sugar and BP?
Please suggest me and reply soon

It depends on the amount of covornary disease and where it is distributed. It also depends on the underlying patient. Diabetics with significant left main disease will have a better outcome with CABG than with PCI. The operations are quite different: with PCI you go home th enext day if everything goes well, whereas CABG requires about a 7 day hopsitalization. THere are also more upfront risks with CABG, as it is a major surgery and usually requires cardioplegia and circulatory arrest during the surgery.
My advice is for you to speak to the surgeon and have him look at your specific angiogram to see what he would recommend. Most patients who undergo CABG have less need for redo procedures than patients who undergo PCI, but the upfront risk of the surgery may not be something your father is willing to take.
