I just had an EP study done, the doctor found a second pathway but it would not back loop so he was unable to fix the problem, said I also had one side of the heart that fatigues ? not sure what he was talking about.  Now I have to wear another monitor a loop event monitor that I already had and when I would have the palpitations the ecg was always normal.  The EP doctor said there IS a problem but if he doesn't catch it on ECG then he can't fix it, well it has been 2 yrs. with this and it hasn't been recorded yet, what else can I do, the symptoms are debilitating, my job is being effected by the constant fluttering, quick jolting, dizziness and shortness of breath; meds are not working, I'm not having panic attacks either so what is next, I had echo, stress test, many many ECGs, upper GI and this painful disappointing EP study. What do I do next????
AND My mom has renal artery stenosis and fibromuscular dysplasia... can that run in family?  I'm only 28 and this is ruining my used to be active, healthy lifestyle. Please give some advice on optional routes I can go to finally fix this problem.  Doctor said it is SVT but not recordable on ECG.

Dear C. Williams, thank you for your question.  Since I don't know the exact results of your EP study, it's hard for me to comment on what other options may be for you.  However, it is important to document rhythm disturbances during symptoms of skipped beats and palpitations to formulate a treatment plan.  The purpose of the Loop Monitor is to record such a disturbance.  If you have had symptoms and have activated the Loop Monitor during your symptoms multiple times, then I suspect that something should have shown up.  Since I'm just speculating on the cause of your problem, it may be better for you to have a second opinion from another EP doctor.  Fibromuscular dysplasia causing renal artery stenosis can run in families and is more common in women than in men.   However, if you have a normal blood pressure, then I doubt that you have such a problem.  Your best course of action would be to periodically have your blood pressure checked.  If the BP is consistently elevated, then this problem would need to be excluded as a cause.
I hope you find this information useful.  Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.  Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to write back with additional questions.  Good luck!
