What does wall thickness mean in the heart

Wall thickness is a measurement of the thickness of the left ventricular chamber.  It is important to assess for that during echocardiography because there are some deleterious conditions such as aortic stenosis, HOCM or hypertensive heart disease that are associated that.  There is also a benign conditions called athlete's heart which is associated with elevated heart wall thickness.  Only a cardiologist can tell the difference between those.
