Dear Sharon,
It's difficult for me to give specific advise without knowing exactly what your
doctors have found.  Heart valve problems can often be watched without anything
being done but sometimes will require surgery.  You didn't say what kind of
enlargement of the heart was found.  Concentric (even all around) enlargement
can often be due to high blood pressure and is treated by maintaining a low blood
pressure.  Other types of enlargement can be more serious.  All of these conditions
are treated by cardiologists.
Information provided here is of a general nature. Specific diagnoses and treatments can only be made by your doctor. If you
would like to be seen at the Cleveland Clinic, please call 1-800-CCF-CARE for an appointment with a cardiologist at Desk
F25.
