I have a gut feeling it will close on its own. what did the doctor say. if he says it should close in a few months, well it might take longer. some close sooner then other or it may never close witout any issues. the reason I say it might not need surgery, my son had a VSD that was nearly 10 mm this requires suregery. so it seems small. he also had a small Patent Foramen Ovale, it is in the upper part of the heart) that they said was sutured closed, but he still has one.
I hope you son's will close. good luck
michelle
