viral myocarditis sequelae

by banglamom, Jan 19, 2009 02:34AM
I have lots of stupid heart problems since having viral myocarditis in 1993.  I am wondering if there are people who had myocarditis and walked away.  I'm a nurse... this week I actually had 3 patients who had the virus.  1 of them was there on inotropes (medication to raise her bp and perfuse her kidneys), 1 of them has 2 mechanical hearts (left and right ventricular assistance devices), and the other had his heart transplant last year and was back in the hospital with an infection.  I can't really ask them about it.  That would be professionally inappropriate.

Once you have the problems, do they just KEEP on getting worse forever?  I know of people who die.  I know of people who are really badly broken.  Has anyone been there and returned (from the dark side)?

There were elements of both encouragement and terror in this.  The terror is looking at the end of the myocarditis road.  The encouragement was... I may have some problems, but they aren't like THAT!  I hope someone will say... it took years, but then it all cleared up.. or something like that..
