I was wondering if you can tell me what  the side effects are so I can inform her so I can help her .

Well all are good advice..but the hard reality is she is gonna die if she keeps it up.
Besides the obvious stress she is putting on her new heart..her liver doesnt need to be trying to rid the body of the toxic compunds in pot. Her liver is stressed enuff with all the rejection meds she has to take. Then theres the issue of reduced oxygen in the blood from smoking.. the constricted blood vessels..and probably a half a dozen other things I'm missing at the moment, yup shes gonna die.

So I would just take her to a lawyer and have a will made out and ask her to get her affairs in order.  Tell her the funeral will be beautiful and she will be remembered, have her pick out a casket and a plot in a cemetary, see if that doesnt change her attitude.

I couldn't agree anymore with collegegirl...as a family member of someone who is waiting on a donor list, I think your friend is being extremely self centered. You should remind your friend of this. I'm not going to sit here and bash your friend, but man this boils my blood!

Definately not a stupid question.. This girl is very lucky to have someone who cares for her as much as you do, it seems like she might not care too much for herself :(  I dont want to sound too terribly blunt here, but someone gave their life for your friend to have her new heart, its wrong for her to abuse it... Its a possibility that someone else on the transplant list waiting for a similar heart lost their life during the wait.. Your friend should be greatful and out of respect not abuse this new chance at life she has.. Ide definatly inform her parents at the very least.

This is certainly not a stupid question!  I am glad she has someone concerned.  I am kind of speechless that anyone would do that after transplant, personally.  It's nuts!  ANY smoking is bad....it constricts blood vessels, raises the heart rate, generally puts more demand on the heart.  I would be sorely tempted to inform her physicians if I were you, or a  family member who could inform them.  How old is she, and why did she need a transplant?
