weakning of the heart

weakning of the heart

I have had my cardiologist tell me for several years my heart muscle is becoming weaker.  What does one do to improve the heart muscle?  Next, I had chemo almost 10 years ago and one of the drugs used was adramycin.
I know there is a connection in rare cases where this can hurt the muscle.  Why don't we have a trea this problem.

Unfortunately yes the chemo can damage the heart muscle. Had you doctor ordered more test?
It is pretty irresponsible to say your heart muscle is becoming weaker. And then you have to ask on a board what to do. We gladly give you everything we know, but in my opinion first you must tell your doctor to give you tests, staring with ultrasound, so you will see what is your EF number.
If a heart muscle become weaker, medication is most preferably for starter coreg is the more usual recommendation, also sodium watch. That is critical.  You should consume at the most 2000mg per day. Eliminate pre-packaged foods, fast foods, etc.  Must read labels.
But please in your own interest you must have ultrasound.

But do not worry, we still have very normal life, and many of us  have a "weak heart muscle".

Good luck to you to get your answer and treatment.

If you had the chemo almost ten years ago, I wouldn't have thought the chemo would still be affecting your heart. Usually with chemo infusion, you feel a tightness of the chest soon after the drug administration occurs, and perhaps an abnormal heart rhythm. For your Cardiologist to say your heart is getting weaker means he must have run an echocardiogram and know your EF figures. He must also know if your heart is enlarged as a result. I assume that your valves are in good working order and you do not have ischemia?
The way you improve the heart muscle depends on the problem and the cause so ideally, do you have any further information?
