what is wrong with me?

by johanni, Jun 23, 2007 06:57AM
I have posted here before and the advice has been appreciated.have had all the cardiac tests done.echoes mibi scan etc. with a cath done on march 22nd.The cath was normal.Since then I have been getting chest discomfort with pain also in the left arm. Also feel very nauseous at times and dizzy. This gives me great anxiety as I dont know the real cause. My cardiologist says my heart is fine but I feel something is not quite right. When i go to my doctor with these complaints they say to me that my cath was normal so it cant be the heart.Am frustrated that they cant seem to get to the bottom of this. They just tell me that its anxiety! Is it possible that there still could be a problem with the heart.Or am I just a "cardiac neurotic".

i think its anxiety we all go through the scared part, when you think something is wrong with your heart ,and your told its ok than you still wonder, try and relax tell your self dr has gave you the all clear and its ok. maybe try and get something to help you through the times you feel like your heart is hurting . if you have had all test done and it looks like you have than belive your dr or go get another dr see what he says . hang in there .

I think when we say anxiety the first thing that comes to mind is your crazy...well..anxiety is a real disorder that is treatable and will cause symtoms just like a heart attack...gone untreated for many years and it can and will cause a heart attack..it will raise your blood pressure and throw off your entire system....all your tests came back normal for your heart, but your doc is saying you suffer from anxiety..so my advise is get it treated....Drugs alone will not solve your problems...counsiling and an anti anxiety drug may be just what you need. ..some of us suffer from chronic anxiety and can never get off the drugs..its  chemical thing..but relaxation techniques and talking about it helps a lot..I have had chronic anxiety since childhood and began treatment in my 30's. I still anxiety attacks but not bad ones...it got worse before it got better..so please dont just blow this off like its a simple answer from your doctor. he -she is telling you that you are not crazy but suffer from a disorder that is treatable..so get it treated..see your GP and they will take it from there.
good luck
Cheryl

Thanks guys for all your comments and advice.Somehow I do try to believe its anxiety but when the symptoms seem so real you tend to wonder.I will certainly try to look into stress and anxiety control. Thanks again.

Well, I believe that your symptoms are real.  So many times, people who don't have anxiety will try to tell those of us who do have it, that our symptoms are all in our heads and that if we just stop thinking about them they will go away.  Well, they won't.  Too bad it's not that simple.  Your symptoms are real, so don't try to discount them.  I'm not going to tell you what you need to do about them because I don't know.  All I know is that my 12 year old daughter suffers greatly, daily with anxiety and if I knew what to do about them, I would do it.  We've gone to counselors but they always ALWAYS say that she has anxiety because she's homeschooled and that's not why.  So needless to say, I don't trust counselors as much as some people.  Anyway, I hope you find a way to help you because as an anxiety sufferer myself, it's not fun.
