To add to what already has been said a pacemaker is needed when the system's natural pacemaker (sinus node in the right atrium) may be irregular.  Your medication helps control high blood pressure and probably would be prescribed without a pacemaker.  Also, the med helps stable the heart rate, but if the sinus node pacemaker output is abnormal, the heart rate could be slow enough to cause formation of blood clots and a heart attack or too fast causing the heart to be unable to pump enough blood into circulation with each heartbeat and cause heart failure.

Metoporol helps control the heart rate and lowers blood pressure.  It also helps prevent a heart attack to a certain degree.

Metoprolol is a common beta blocker, you probably need it peace maker or not.
Also, should ask your doctor, to explain it to you. We have the right to know why they give us what they give.

Take care!
