accident cause heart rate increase?

January accident caused muscle strain on leg, confined to wheelchair for 3 weeks.
Before accident heart rate was 57bpm ;  now is 87bpm.
Had A-Fib , corrected by cardioverson in March  2007  ; After accident A-Fib returned for about 2 months,then quit but heart rate is 87bpm..

How could the accident affect heart rate?    or the A-Fib?

Health xlnt excellent with low cholesteral, tryglicerides., 2 bms daily,  blood pressure 120/78+-

Wow what kind of Wheaties are you eating my friend????  82 years old and vitals like you have......i thought i didn't get impressed too much by anything but you just wrote the book.

You are still within normal limits here .......remember for non athletes a resting pulse rate can be between 70-120 so you are fine there.  As far as the jump of 30 beats per minute it could be absolutely anything.....meds they gave you for pain,,,,,,your pain threshold is up and that definately causes an increased pulse rate....your metabolism isn't obviously working as quickly as it should since you are confined to a wheelchair, food is digesting more slowly, alot of things.  Its not uncommon to have repeat incidents of A Fib when things are changing in our normal activities.  Structurely speaking your heart is the same however the electrical activity has changed as your daily activities have.  It makes sense to me......i am sure others will weigh in........
