3 Week Post Ablation

As promised I am checking in and letting others know how it's going after 21 days after successful ablation ( 95% chance of success ).  Like previously stated, I was finally diagnosed with AVNRT after 13 years of living/suffering with it. Surgery went great and with-out a hitch 3hrs operation and they called it a day ;) Black and blue marks are almost gone, not much left. There is not more pain in the groin area at all. Started getting more energy after each passing weeks. Started to slowly get back into my weight training and feeling good about it too. Still have PACs/PVCs ( not sure which one ) but I was told to expect some diminished effects over time but that they might not disapear completely. I am happy to report I have not had any Tachycardia episodes since. I did experience sudden sensation of rapid heart rate that seemed to have shorted themselves out as soon as you notice it ( lasting no more then a few secs. ). Again not worried about it as this could happen during the 3 month mark maybe all the way to 6 months. Still off every medication. To be independent from any meds is such a great feeling and having less worries every day is a gift. Enjoying and loving this new life, let's hope it keeps getting better.

To anyone unsure of going through an Ablation, just do it. It's not as bad as you make it  out to be in your head. It's also not as painful as you imagine it would be. It just worth it.
Good luck to all of you and thank you to all who provided information and support.
I'll be sticking around for sure :D

Tomorrow marks my 5th week post RFA.  I was diagnosed with AVNRT, but the mapping showed the SVT to be "automatic atrial tachycardia" with a focal point around the tricuspid valve annular region.  7 ablations were needed.  I had two brief episodes about 2 weeks ago where I felt like my heart rate took off, but it did not persist.  I'm have an event monitor for the next few weeks to catch anything just in case.  However, the surest way to not have any problems is to wear a heart monitor!

I still get ectopic beats of some species.  The RFA was for the SVT, not the PVCs or PACs.

I got enough happy juice during the procedure so that the worse part was the anxiety of waiting and waiting and waiting.  It was actually a relief when they gave me the first dose of sedative so that I could relax.

Sometimes physicians will do procedures just to placate a patient.  If your EP recommends an ablation procedure, don't hesitate.  In fact, try to get it done as soon as you can.  The anxiety is hell.  I assure you that you have been through worse experiences than the procedure.  But, don't do pressure your EP for it when they don't think you need it.

Unfortunately I cannot confirm the use of antibiotic during procedure, but after surgery I was only told to take 81mg of aspirin once a day for 30 days. I'm thinking that the only time you are given any form of antibiotics is if you are having signs of infection during the resting period a few hours after the ablation. What those signs could be I could not tell you.

But again as I mentioned before, don't worry too much about it. because you can inform and ask as many questions as you want, before, during (you *should* be awake)  and after the procedure.

Hope it helps

I'm very allergic to just about every antibiotic. Most close my throat, and I've had several close calls during antibiotic treatment in the past. My question is this:  When you have an ablation, do they give you an IV antibiotic or any antibiotics to take. I have thousands of PVCs a day. The thought that I may someday need an ablation (and possibly the need for antibiotic treatment during or after surgery) really worries me. Thanks.

During my pre-op I did the bloodwork, an ECG and a final consultation for any remaining questions I might have. From there I was told when to stop taking my medication and was on my way back home, less then 2 hours to do it all. A few days later came the surgery.
Again even before going into the operating room, you'll meet with the EP that is going to perform the ablation and can ask them any more questions or worries you might have. It's easy sailing really. Most important thing to do is to let go of any fear and go with the flow, as hard as that may seem. You're already in a Heart clinic safest place to be :P

I am 4 months psot my ablation for afib and svt.   The procedure was easy and I did not get any kind of drugs during the procedure..  I would do it again tomorrow.    I am down to 12.5mg of Atenolol and feeling good.     I am glad we have so many positive ablation stories on here.  I am glad we are all sticking around.

Getting in line to say thank you for post op reports. I think they are so helpful to others who have traveled this road and those who are getting prepared for their journey to ablation. It's going on 6 weeks post ablation for me. Steady as she goes on this end with good thoughts and wonderful outcomes for one and all.

Glad that you are continuing to do well lane - I have just 29 days to wait for my procedure.  I have to go for pre-op tests on June 10 - from what I understand this would be bloodwork, ECG and an x-ray.  Is this what you had?  My dx is AVNRT so I am hoping for the same outcome as you...

I am still so worried, however each time I read your posting I feel less anxious - just can't wait to get rid of this monster that's ruining my life!
