9 Month Old Possible Heart Issue????

9 Month Old Possible Heart Issue????

My son has been experiencing some weird breathing issues that are episodic in nature.  Since about 3 months old he would have one episode every couple of months or so where he would suddenly have trouble breathing, his chest will restrict in so tightly that you can clearly see his ribs.  He will also let out a loud high pitched wheezy inhale and he becomes quite distraught and panicked during these episodes. We have seen my family physician who coudl not diagnose the actual problem and we have been to emerge several times but by the time we get there his symptoms have disappeared.  Today we had this issue again and the doctor who saw my son said that it could be a possibly rythmic problem with his heart but it would be hard to diagnose unless he say the episode.  Can anyone give me any clues as to what his may be?  I am a new mum and very scared for my son.

Awe sweety, am sorry what your going through, must be horrible being a first time mum and all... My second daughter's lips used to go blue, she wheezes something terrible when she is running around, a big girl for her age (3), she was 10.14 born, and is very tall, not fat just big boned, but boy she can eat!! Anyway i was terrified with her symptoms, and the doctor refered us to a peatrician, he did some tests and determinied she is fine and to just watch her food intake and to keep an eye on wheezy'ness and to go back in a year...

Has your son seen a peatrician? (sp).. Had any tests?

Is there any way your son could be having episodes of croup?  My son had episodes of that from the time he was 6 mo old to 3 yrs.  It is very scary and dangerous, as he is not getting enough oxygen.  My son's occured mostly in the late evening hrs and sometimes through the night.  Sitting with him in a very warm steamy bathroom can bring some relief if it is indeed the croup. If he is experiencing that much distress, you need to take him to the ER because his oxygen level is being compromised.

That breathing description you gave is so typical of a severe asthma episode. Have they checked him for that?
