A-Fib & Amiodarone

by artvit, Oct 23, 2007 10:25AM
Am taking Amiodarone(100mg every other day) for A-Fib.  I have severe glaucoma
and am concerned about drug's effect on vision.  Can Rhythmol be substituted
to give the same protection?  Are there any side effects from this drug?

Amiodarone does not cause or worsen glaucoma, it increases deposits in certain positions within the eye.  An ophthalmologist should be able to tell you if the amiodarone is affecting your vision and advise you to stop if it is.

Rhythmol is used to treat atrial fib, but only in patients with no structural heart disease or coronary artery disease.  You should see a doctor that is very familiar with these drugs to help you pick the best one.

The above link discusses some of the side effects of rhythmol.

I hope this helps.
