A Natural Approach?

Hello,

I'm a 49 year old female with an EF of 32.  I had an MI at age 40 with a LAD cholesterol blockage.  I think it is because of stress but mainly changed my diet to high fat (just living like the rest of Americans!) and have a family history.

My doctor is recommending a ICD which I'm not feeling comfortable about.  I do want to reduce my risk but how can I increase my EF using a more natural approach?

If you are more than 40 days post heart attack on good medical therapy, the MADIT II trial supports an ICD if you have class II or III symptoms.  I understand your desire to avoid a procedure, but your doctor is probably right.

Aside from medications and good living, there is not a natural approach to improve your heart function.

I hope this helps.

I should say that I do not have any symptoms.  I've not had a problems since I had my MI in 99.
