AV node ablasion

AV node ablasion

In 2007 I had an AV node ablasion because of bad dizzy spells and SVT. For almost 3 years Ive done very well.  Now the dizzy spells are starting up again and getting more frequant.  My question is.  Can you have another AV node ablasion done. I've had triple heart by pass and a defibulator. I just underwent carotid artery surgery after having a TIA.
Your help would be appreciated.

Wow i am surprised that your doc didn't implant a pacemaker when undertaking an AV/Node ablation which is pretty much the norm.  Docs tend to stay completely clear of the sinus/AV nodes because as of yet the results are not in the best interest of the patient however you sound like you were one of the lucky ones.  I really don't feel too comfortable tossing out my opinion on this one but am assuming that you are getting dizzy because your heart rate is dropping?  You definately need to talk to the doc because dizziness is not a symtom one should ignore...best of luck to you and i would definately re think this one if it were my body..maybe it is something simple like your doc needs to adjust your meds?  Good luck to you....

This question will have to be answered by a Doctor. However, I dont think an ablation for AVNRT need include a pacemaker, unless there were some irregularities. In AVNRT there are usually two pathways, a slow pathway and a fast pathway, and the approach is usually to ablate the pathway that is furthest from the AV node. This is commonly done without placing a pacer, unless something goes wrong.

It seems like there could be some possibility that they could ablate again, but I would think that the risk for needing a pacer afterward would be higher, simply because knowledge of the prior lesions and scaring would need to be accounted for, and would be more difficult to factor into the procedure.

In general, having other medical conditions, such as heart disease, changes your qualifications for having an ablation. You and your doctor will have to assess this.

Sorry to hear that you symptoms have returned.

Thank you Cindy for responding to my question. I do have a pacemaker/defibulator, and with the first AV node ablasion  my Doctor said the medication I was on was fine, so there was no adjusting of them.  Like I said in my post, I was fine for almost three years. So Iam thinking now that I need to have it done again.

And to  Bromley, thank you also for responding.  I do have heart disease along with CHF, and cardiomyophaty. Iam a walking time bomb. lol.  Iam like the energizer bunny, I just keep going and going.  I will be seeing my cardiologist today. I will keep you both posted as to what he says.  Thanks again
