AVNRT/SVT

Hello everyone, so I was diagnosed with AVNRT and had and ablation done last March. I was so glad to have my life back and feel like myself again after those scary episodes. Sadly, a few weeks ago I had the flutter and palpitations return and lasted about an hour. Had to leave work scared and it was only my second day! Now my stress level is through the roof and I'm terrified of another attack while I'm at work. Well I saw my cardiologist yesterday and he assured me that the ablation was successful in treating my AVNRT and perharps I have a new SVT. So now I'm starting all over with wearing a halter monitor and try to catch it before he can do anything. So frustrating, I would like to just have another ablation and be done with it. Has anyone else had their symptoms return after ablation? How common is it to cure one type of arrhythmia only to be diagnosed with a different one?

In general from what I understand if it is going to return it generally does it within the year or it is possible you had a second spot.  That isn't unheard of either so just hang in there.  I am sure a second ablation will help correct this issue once and for all.

Yes, I had mine done 4 years ago for AVRT.  Mine has been good so far.

Thank you for the quick reply, yes it feels like the exact same symptoms returned however, when I had my ablation done last year I was feeling flutters every now and then but not palpitations that's what has me concerned all over again. I'm glad to hear your ablation was successful. I hope to get this issue resolved soon once and for all.

In relation to what you had before does it feel the same?  As fast?  Or does it feel irregular?  I had an ablation for avnrt successfully ablated over 3 years ago but still get ectopic beats and runs of something though no runs that last an hour but I can get ectopics all day long sometimes.  In general it isn't uncommon for people with heart rhythm issues to have a few issues.  Hopefully the holter will capture it so you can know what it is.  Like Tom said, a few have had to go back for a second ablation and that is usually a success if it is indeed your svt returning and at least now you know what to expect.  For me that was the most difficult part.  I was more afraid of the ablation than I was of the svt itself.  Best of luck sorting it out.  Let us know how it turns out.

Thank you for your reply, have you also had ablation done? Was it successful? How long ago? If you don't mind me asking. It helps knowing I'm not alone in this.

I havent, but I've seen a number of people pass through the forum with problems similar to yours.  It is possible for an ablation to reveal another problematic location.  I'm thinking the electrophysiologist is doing a little damage control in saying it's another location as opposed to saying, "I didn't get it all..."  Regardless, you got through it once, and you can do it again....
