Ablation post op pain?

by angelnote, Dec 04, 2007 08:06PM
I had a VT ablation done on Nov. 12th.  They ablated 3 areas with multiple foci in each area.  Everything went perfectly and I had typical discomfort immediately following surgery and for about a week and a half later.  Then I didn't feel a thing ---until last night.  The area where my sustained VT started starting hurting again - and lasted a few minutes.  A few more episodes this morning and nothing more today.  Today I also had multiple PVC's throughout the day which I had not had since the surgery.

It's hard to explain what it feels like - a soreness, discomfort and sometime a twinge or burning feeling.  I have a call into the cardiologist but wondered if anyone else had experienced the same thing.
Thanks!
Angel

I too had ablation 5 years ago. I had 5 places ablated and an extra A-Node also. I experienced alot of pain during the procedure and some discomfort for weeks afterwards. I also had many PVC's and PAC's after the ablation for about 3 months but they put me on Atenolol and Xanax. They tried Lexapro until I figured out that it was making my palps worse. I went off of them and have just within the last 3 months have had the Demon rear it's ugly head again. I have now been put on Metoprolol along with 4mg's of Xanax a day. I am very anxious and stressed to the max. I was also told to take Effexor ER but I decided to try and deal with it on my own. My Ablation was a God sent for 5 years and I can't complain. I still am not disappointed that I had it because I did suffer from SVT's also. That was soooooo scary. My heart rate was 332 as accurate as they could count.I think that the heart has to heal from the removal of the skin that caused me to go through ablation to start with. I personally think that with time your symptoms will subside. I like you called my cardiologist and he reassured me that what I was feeling was normal. He was right. I wish you the best of  luck. I hope that all works out well for you.By the way you will meet all kinds of very nice and informative people on here. They make you feel like you are not the only one who has to deal with it alone.I found this site by accident and I love it. I don't go a day without looking at it. Try to ignore the PVC's. I am learning everyday to block them out.

I rememember some twitches, twinges and stuff like that.  No real pain per se, but there were times when I felt "something."  Try not to worry about the fluctuating pvcs.  I can't remember if I told you, but I had my second ablation on November 7 and on Christmas Eve I went back in bigeminy for about 6 hours!  I remember sitting in church thinking -- OH NO!!  Fortunately, things settled back down by morning.  Since then, I've only had a few pvc storms.  But, they were during stressful events and never lingered too long.
Hang in there angel!

Thanks, it really helps that I'm not the only one feeling these wierd twinges, etc. and that I"m not imagining things.  My cardiologist says the ablation was successful but we need to wait until the Amiodarone is out of my system (another few months) to see if there are anymore.  I'm trying not to think about that.  She says mine were on the septum, caused by the enlargement of the heart pulling on it or something like that.  If my heart is still enlarged, which it still is - won't I keep getting these?

What is bigeminey, Momto3?

Only time will tell if your pvcs will return.  Fingers crossed that the ablation continues to be a success!!

Bigeminy is when you have a pvc every other heartbeat.  You have a normal beat, pvc, normal beat, pvc, normal beat, pvc.......
