Ace inhibitor induced PVCs

Ace inhibitor induced PVCs

I had never experienced PVCs (perhaps once a "blue moon")  until I began taking an ACE inhibitor for blood pressure control.  My blood pressure was only slightly above normal parameters and I have fortunately been able to bring it under control by losing 15 lbs.  The problem that I have incurred is that the PVC are still present.  I was only on the ACE inhibitor for two weeks and have now been off of the drug for one month.  My question is. why would the PVCs still be present and should I expect them to eventually go away?

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

It's sometimes reported by people who take any sort of blood pressure control medicine that they get an increase in ectopic beats like PVCs.  This is anecdotally reported for calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, ACE inhibitors.  These all have very different methods for controlling BP so I'm thinking it must not be the compounds themselves causing it.  Perhaps it's the lowering of BP that throws off electrical patterns in the heart.

No one really knows.  If you asked every cardiologist in the world what this is about most would probably deny any cause/effect.

Benign PVCs tend to wax and wane on their own.    Us PVC sufferers always try to associate some sort of cause for this behavior but quite often our guesses are later proven wrong.  I can think of a few things you can try to help the situation.  Get checked out well by your cardiologist to be sure everything is OK.  IN particular get an EKG, stress test, and echo.  Also, ACE inhibitors do mess with potassium and sodium.  Perhaps try to supplement some electrolytes to see if that helps.  I would do magnesium and calcium like Slo Mag, then eat foods rich in potassium.
