sounds like congrats are in order debbier!!!
Thanks for the responses, I seen the EP this morning, I am going to have an ablation on 2/10, he feels I am having runs of SVT, possible Afib (since I had history) and to see what the cause of my palpitations.
He took me off Toprol, he feels I do not need any medications at this time. He told me to quit the Toprol cold turkey so I am nervous about that now. I just hope the palpitatiosn go away once the Toprol is out of my system. The EKG done two weeks ago was questionable if I was in a-flutter or just a bad ekg lead?
I am going to take Xanax and see if that helps and will wait for my EP study he feels he has a 70% chance of finding something and 70-90% chance of correcting the problem. He is one of the best in NY so I am anxious and scared and the same time.
Thanks again for being there, I am sure I will have more questions.
Hey read your post and that tingling/prickly thing you are feeling from the head to the toes is definately anxiety over whatever was going on with you. Toporol is a little heavier than alot of the meds out there and there are alot of lower doses that could be offered to you by your doc. I think seeing the EP is an excellent idea because they'll know exactly what is causing this situation w. 3 full days of palpatations which isn't the norm. Sometimes your meds definately do have to be adjusted to find one that is just right for your body because we are all so different. Post after your EP appt. because i for one would be interested in knowing what they came up with....Good luck Debbier.............
The beta blockers are at the lower end (softest) heart rhythm medications, but I think they all can make the heart rhythm problems worse.
I don't intend to argue with you doctor(s), as I have only the experience of a patient, no medical training. I do know drugs like Propafenone/Rhythmol and stronger drugs are implemented very carefully as they can have very serious side effects.
Again, I don't want to add to your fears, but if you are worse I think you have a good reason to ask for a change in medications.
I have had atrial fib, tons of PVCs and PACS and SVT. I was put on toprol and then atenolol. Both of them seemed to actually increase my PVCs. I told the cardiologist and he pretty much said it wasn't the meds but I am sure that it was. I switched to an EP and he changed my beta blocker to Bystolic. It doesn't do it and I have had far fewer side effects. I have been on it since September. It does seem to work better for me.
