Anxiety/PVC and PACs

Anxiety/PVC and PACs

If I ever had any doubt about anxiety being 99% of my problem tonight proved it.  I have been supposed to take an overnight trip for work and have known about it for about a month.  I did not want to go.  The last week or so I have had tons of skips, extra beats, etc.  Tonight my heartrate got up to a bit over 100 and was jumping all over the place.  I was about ready to go to the ER but thought I would try an ativan.   Shortly after I took it I got a call that the trip was cancelled.  Almost immediately my heart settled down and is just as regular as can be.  It is pretty scary what your brain can do to your body.

Anxiety can do it to you for sure as your body releases adrenaline in response to your brain signals.  Of course your heart gets irritable after that and starts jumping all over the place.  As anxiety is a common trigger and problem that makes PVC\PAC worse, it is by far not a cause of PVC\PAC.  My doctor explained that in the general population a vast majority have PVC\PAC with no stress or anxiety problems.  Therefore anxiety can make things worse, but in no way what is causing the underlying PVC\PAC.

No, but tonight proved to me that with minimal anxiety I have a manageable problem, I can get on with my life and not worry too much about it.  But throw in a ton of anxiety and I'm toast.  After my husbands bypass surgery I was in the ER 5 times in a couple of months.  Doctors kept telling me I had to control my anxiety, that anxiety was causing the problem with my heart to get so much worse.  Didn't believe them, couldn't imagine that stress could do that much to me.  But yep, believe them now.

I agree with you about the anxiety making them worse.  Every time I get anxious and feel anxiety coming on, my heart starts skipping all over the place.  I take a 1mg Xanax and It makes me feel much better.  The skips reduce probably 75%.  Although nothing has really ever made them go all the away for me.  If you know anything that cures the skips please let me know.
